Yatra Nepal #001 Reposting

*This show is in Nepali Language*

This is a re-posting of our first episode.

In our first entry in the Yatra Nepal series, we speak with Susma Dhakal, a middle school student who visited her mother in Nepal and celebrated the most important Nepali festival with her family. After a long flight and trip to her village, Susma lived her summer back home, enjoyed wonderful food, watched movies and television, celebrated Dashain, saw endangered animals at a wildlife park, and came back to Canada in what felt like a blink of the eye.

Yuba Sanchar #004

*This show is in Nepali Language*

Many of the ideas are related to Infrastructure, productivity, and economic growth, including tunnels, wider roads, and improved traffic control for faster transportation. Improve infrastructure, grow economy, and create jobs on the back of the improved infrastructure. Grow things that are most effective in various lands rather than always growing rice. Improve export market and try to export to countries outside of India so that we become gradually food and energy independent from India; increase production of things in Nepal so that some can be exported outside of Nepal. Reduce bargaining so that valuable time is not wasted. Attract foreign investment like what India did. Focus on sustainable development and reduction of population growth.

Like the episode before, the theme of cleanliness and pollution resurfaced. Yuba Sanchar children suggested the cleaning up of Kathmandu and other cities in Nepal by having proper garbage collection facilities. Garbage bins should be available in public places so that all junk is properly disposed. With proper facilities and cleanliness Nepal can become one of the most attractive tourist destinations.

Any discussion about Nepal is bound to mention topics related to health, education and social security. Yuba Sanchar suggests having schools in every village so our literacy rate increases and poverty rates decrease. We should make it illegal for people to marry until 18 so that they continue schooling and a 2 child policy, where the first two children in the family have free education. The team suggests reducing the load at elementary schools and banning physical punishment of students to encourage people to stay at school. Like in Canada, tax and collect from the rich to build food banks and shelters all over Nepal. Make public (no fee) schools all over Nepal.

Nepal is a water-rich country with abundant hydroelectricity potential. Suggestions to make electricity and water supply stable are discussed. This would encourage outsourcing to Nepal, for example. Provide electricity in remote villages as well, and drastically increase electricity production. Reduce cost of electricity by ending exemptions and fining people who steal electricity.

On the topic of corruption, Yuba Sanchar members suggested ensuring people know what the cost of government services are so that people know when they are being cheated. Also, we suggested city planning so people make houses only in proper places and don't impede traffic.

Show Breakdown:

0:25 – Geeta introduces
1:30 – discussion begins
23:00 – Geeta concludes
25:00 – Chutkila

*This show is in Nepali Language*

This program is focused around improving Kathmandu with special emphasis put on reducing garbage and air pollution. Regarding garbage, both reduction and recycling of non-decomposable materials were considered. Ideas like introducing garbage bins in sidewalks came out of the discussion. Regarding air pollution, a major theme to come out was that public transportation, especially trolley bus lines, can alleviate air pollution in Kathmandu. Broad range of ideas relating to Kathmandu like planting grass and trees on barren land, building tunnels, decentralizing public services and institutions were discussed. Population reduction of Kathmandu was also deemed important. Family planning and 2-child policy were two ideas that were discussed. Then Pheri Tyo Din by Sugam Pokhrel was played. Kailash anchored the news about China being the third country to walk in space. After news of Chinese government's aid to Nepal, discussion continued on the ramifications in terms of relations with India.

*This show is in Nepali Language*

We briefly introduce to members who missed the pervious episode. Yuba Sanchar finishes their two-part discussion about the Dalit system in Nepal and how the problems could be mitigated by providing proper education to all and by giving all people equal changes to succeed regardless of their background. Another theme to come out of the discussion is that society often places importance on development of natural resources while leaving the human potential untapped. Afterwards, we play a song named “phool ko aankha ma” by Ani Choying. Following this, Geeta ji tells the story of Pandora's box.

Show Breakdown:

The first radio show was a blast! The youth introduce themselves briefly before they start the interview with Dr. Pramod Dhakal about a recent conference that took place in the USA. It was hosted by NASO (Nepali American Society for Oppressed community). The conference was about Dalits in Nepal, and about how to end the cruelty. Dr.Dhakal said that education is one of the main ingredients to solve this challenge! Dr.Dhakal thinks that youth can help a lot in this matter. He also thinks that we shouldn't ignore people just because they are a lower caste. We all discussed this and we all have to respect that we are humans. Following the discussion, we also had some world news reported from Kailash. Pranaya told us a hilarious joke to end the show.
